Rabon, Yisroel: 1900-1941

Rabon was born in Gowartshev, Poland and lived with his family in Balut, the poor ssuburb of Lodz. He lost his father early in life and became a sign painter for a while. He first published in the Lodz “Folksblatt” at age 15. Then followed stories and poetry in a variety of journals including one in Warsaw where he lived for a short time, and edited a journal called Os “(Letter)”. To earn a living he wrote romance novellas serialized in the Togeblatt, (“Lodz Daily”) and the Warsaw newspaper Haynt, (“Today”). He escaped the Warsaw Ghetto and fled to Vilna. There he was taken to Ponar and killed.
