Moishe Kaufman: Let There Come

Let There Come
by Moishe Kaufman

Let there come to me at last
sometime an hour of gladness,
let flowers grow at my window
and heal the pain in my heart.
Life long I gave time away
and ask only one hour back,
I have just one desire
To enjoy something too while I’m here.
From a tender woman’s hand – a caress
from dark eyes a hot tear,
in a corner a clean white bed
a dream, a sweet dream nothing more.
On a cold dreary fall night
the wind will storm with rage:
and hearts will close down.
Tears of sweat will pour from the sky.
In the night I’ll be wakeful not dreaming
I will cry, cry and not grow tired
