To a Poor, Poor Man
by Unknown
To a poor poor man
there happened a wonderful thing.
Once up in his tree
a bird began to sing
People from over the world
walked and ran
to buy the wonderful bird
from this happy man
So he said “give me a bed
with a pillow to rest my head
and a big bear from the woods
and a little bear too.”
So people from the end of the world
made him a bed
spun him a sheet that was new
but could not find a bear from the woods
and a little bear too.
“Now give me a table”, he said
and a chair to sit in and rest
and a deer from the woods
and a little doe too.
People from the end of the world
built him a table
and brought him a chair to rest and unwind.
But a deer from the woods
and a little doe – they could not find.
Then he ordered they give him a suit
and a shirt to sleep in too
and a fox from the woods
and a little red fox too.
So people from the end of the world
spun a suit and a sleep shirt too
but a fox from the woods
and a little red fox as well
they searched and searched – but could not find
People from the end of the world
became tired and very mad
and from the poor happy man’s own tree
they took the bird he had.
Then to a poor poor man
there happened a wonderful thing
far up on a branch of his tree
a second bird started to sing.
